Backing up is something that many people never do. And for those of us who do, it is something we don’t do often enough. However, backing up your computer is something that if you aren’t doing you are playing with fire. It is a matter of when, not if, your hard drive fails.
Just ask yourself this question: How would you feel if you lost all the data on your computer today?
I suspect you may not feel really good. You’ve put time and energy in the documents, photos, and videos that you have created, don’t lose them.
So here’s a how to on backing up your computer.
First the things you need.
An external Hard Drive: I like these: 1TB (1000GB Western Digital) or 400GB Western Digital)
A free backup program: I use Syncback Freeware. It is a great program download here.
Install your hard drive, then install syncback. Fire up syncback and it will guide you through the process of setting up your automatic backups.
The great thing about syncback is it can read the changes that you have made since you last backed up and backup only those.
The automatic way
Or you could always take the really easy way out and sign up for automatic backup at carbonite.com. This is free for limited or only $55/ year for unlimited backup storage.

this would have been handy before the drive failure… But once I get a new internal drive to use, I’ll probably still poke around with syncback.
