What I’ve Been Up To Lately

Here’s a quick update on what I’ve been up to lately.
First, we had a baby on July 5th! David James Garber, he was born 9 pounds 15 ounces! We were at Women and Babies for almost a week and it’s good to be out now!
Taking care of a baby is a lot of work, but Carmen and I are enjoying David a lot, he is so beautiful! I suppose we don’t sleep as much as we used to.
The days are flying by like crazy in a lot of ways. It will be fun when he can crawl and walk. It’s hard to believe Carmen and I have been married for more than 3 years! It has been such a blessing to be best friends and share life together.
So what am I doing for a job right now? I’m no longer working as a wedding photographer and I don’t fix computers for a living anymore. I now work at Medical Support Products in the online world developing and marketing an e commerce website to sell respiratory equipment and supplies. It’s a good fit in many ways. The hardest part of my job is that I’m selling things I am just learning about like disposable nose clips and ventilator circuits. One really neat product we sell that I actually understand well is our no contact thermometer. Other items, like the HT70 ventilator, are a lot more technical in nature. I am slowly learning about the many products we sell. Here’s how the old site looked.
As far as hobbies, lately I like to study economics, politics and gardening. I like gardening the most. I have built 12 raised beds and love to plant many different varieties of heirloom vegetables. I even started a gardening website about gardening with heirloom varieties.
So anyway, life is busy and God is good. I am truly blessed.
“Maybe Your Soul Is Stronger” by Bonita Garber

Maybe your soul is stronger,
Unbreakable as of yet.
Maybe mine just flies with strangers,
And gets stolen in their nets.
If I were a fish, I’d be dead,
Already hooked by the bait of mine hunger.
If I were a fish,
I’d still breathe,
But with you I’m drowning underwater.
Locked into silverless mail,
Caught in disastrous fate.
At least I’m still alive as of yet,
But my laughter is gone in evil’s wake.
Maybe your soul is stronger,
Holding back the terrors that would also come.
Maybe it’s me the problem,
Maybe it’s not you, but me-
I’m the one.
If love were a thing to be taken,
And a hate a thing to be had,
I’ll admit I am weighted with the latter,
Because of my guilt that my love,
Would ultimately kill the lad.
You see, I carry on in this fashion,
And must speak in fiery tongue,
To try to deceive you of what I have done,
So that you may not know what is to come.
For me it was already dangerous,
No use in other soul’s to be lost.
By me floating in agony always,
I can prevent innocent mothers tears,
And maybe innocent brothers deaths.
Maybe your soul is stronger,
But I’d rather not try and check.
Maybe you think that your better off,
Without a care to cast off.
Because I have died in one’s place as of today,
And so prevented hundred’s of millions of deaths.
For the evil one dares to deceive thee,
Sneaking always, into thy mind.
The evil one, comes to prey on you,
Begging you to be so unkind.
Questions and Realizations Experienced at Wonder Club
Today as I was reading a “Jesus book” to 3-year-old Moses*, he started punching the picture of Jesus. This surprised me, since Moses had just been admiring Jesus and how he had held the children in his arms. I asked him if he was mad at Jesus. He said yes. He said he wanted Jesus to be here. We were looking at the picture of Jesus leaving his friends and going into heaven. Moses then went on to say that he wished “Jesus would come out of the book.” I went on to explain how Jesus can live inside each of us and be with us all the time, even if we can’t see him with our eyes.
Earlier in the day, we had been acting out the story of Noah in the water table. I showed the children a picture of the rainbow and the ark, and told them that God said he’d never cover the whole earth with water again. Moses* kept asking me where God was in the picture, because he wanted to see God.
Pray for Moses and his 4-year-old sister, that Jesus would “come out of the book” for them and that they will know His deep love for them. Pray that they will be able to see the evidence of God all around them.
Thank you, Jesus, for your love for children!

I woke up to the alarm beeping and stayed in bed for another half hour. Then some getting ready for work. I had a lot of fun tearing off a roof with my dad and my cousin Justin Garber. Then I came home to my lovely wife and ate the African meal that she prepared. Yummy! Hung out with Carmen and did some sermon planning. Now it’s time for some relaxing with some tea and a great book ‘Lord of the Rings’. Woot! God is good.
Here is the bread I made on sunday night.

We are harvesting heirloom green zebra tomatoes and heirloom summer squash… Yumm… We got a late start this year due to moving to our new house. I expect next years garden or gardens will be much bigger and better.
I suggest starting a garden. It’s lots of fun and you’ll get some extra vitamin D.
